It was a lot of work to be perfect. If you didn't want to break a sweat, there was no point in even bothering.
I read The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen last summer, then picked it up again last week for a re-read. I remember how I loved this book the first time, and I loved it even more when reading it on the page. It's the perfect book for my YA Romance Challenge, and of course fits wuth the YA Challenge, too.
Sixteen-year-old Macy Queen has a long, boring summer stretched out in front of her. While her boyfriend is away at Brain Camp, she will sit at the library information desk. In her spare time, she will study for her SATs or help her mother plan her open house events, while grieving for her father recent and unexpected loss. But when she meets and joins the chaotic crew of Wish Catering, everything starts to change. She makes new friends--lively Kristy, introverted Monica, and most of all, Wes. A guy who thinks flaws are what make a person interesting. Wes helps Macy understand that being perfect isn't that important after all.
The main theme in The Truth About Forever is being perfect. After losing her father, Macy is scared and tries to cope by controlling everything she can: her clothes, her appearance, her grades, how others perceive her. While striving to be perfectly organized, she doesn't realize that she has stopped living. It's Wes who reminds her that flaws are more interesting than perfection. The esxperience with Wish Catering allows Macy to let go, have fun, and start living her life again.
I think Wes is the most interesting character of the whole book. I mean, a guy who thinks perfection is boring, does he even exist in real life? But this point of view fascinated me, because that's what I've always thought myself: flaws and peculiarities make people interesting, while perfection isn't that great in itself.
I loved this book to pieces, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the review. This sounds good. I also want to read Just Listen. I've heard nothing but good things about this author. I'll have to add this one to my TBR list.

This sounds like another young adult book I should read. I've been adding these to my list by the dozens, it seems.
