Week 3 of the Blog Improvement Project is all about writing different kinds of content. It’s easy to get into a pattern of writing the same kinds of posts over and over again, but sometimes it can be fun to spice it up, or at least have ideas about other ways to present your ideas.
I did a search about kinds of blog posts and came across many articles about kinds of blog posts: 20 Types of Blog Posts, The 5 Types of Blog Posts that Experts Write, and All 13 Types of Blog Post, just to link to a few. What I learned in doing this was something I should have known in the first place — there are no definitive types of blog posts. However, there are some types of posts that can be the bread and butter of a successful blogger, and knowing some of these forms can help if you feel like you’re in a rut.
BIP progress report:
- The layout stays as it is. That's final.
- I've improved my blogroll. Now it displays the most recently updated blogs in the list, with the title of the post. Useful new Blogger function, I must say.
- I've put my picture as avatar instead of the white daisy I used before. That's me on one of the happiest days of my life - when I got my degree.
- I've taken down the Odiogo podcast. I had thought it could be useful, but no one ever clicks on that thing... which means it's just clutter. Plus, it was starting to feel a bit creepy.
- I think the buttons part of the sidebar still looks a bit messy. Hmmm.
- I'm not returning/replying to comments much these days, I know. Hopefully it'll get better.
- As for hosting Library Loot... I often forget. But at least you can trust Eva to have her post up on the right day!
- I need a new About page. The current one is old.

5 Comments:
Hey, you can't make all the changes in a single day or month! I like your photo and some of the other changes you've made.
I am going to try to finish this week's BIP assignment, but I don't think I'll be doing all of the either!
I am surprised more bloggers don't use the recent comment feature. Personally, I think it is a win-win for readers and the blogger. As a reader, I like to know which blog posts are eliciting comments. I typically read these posts first. As a blogger, the recent comments draws me first to readers who have taken time to leave a comment. I make sure to respond to as many readers as possible.
As a reader, when I know a blogger is likely to read and repond to my comments, I am far more likely to visit that blogs. One of the best features of blogs over a traditional website is the ability to interact with the writer.
I find most of the blogs I visit through other bloggers. I don't spend a lot of time searching by tags or googling. If I'm reading your blog, like what you do and we have similar tastes, then I want to check out who you're reading. I recently wanted to find YA blogs. I started with bloggers I already read then I began to check out bloggers they linked.
Anyone who is not using the new blog list feature is wasting an opportunity to promote peers who would likely in turn promote your blog and failing to use a tool that makes it is easy to know when a site has been updated. I'm saving time with this feature and it's more convenient because I don't have to check my tool bar or randomly hop around.
I really like your new avatar and the improved Blogroll features are great, I agree!
The only way I remember to do Library Loot is by pre-scheduling! ;)
I don't think I'll be changing my layout either-I'd have to pay Wordpress to be able to design my own, and I don't think it's worth it! Your avatar pic is great. :D
I've been working on the BIP assignment, but a couple of them have me stymied. So we'll see if I get them all done! Ten posts in fourteen days, with only one 'review,' means that I'm way behind on book reviews now too. Oh well!
