For Week 4 of the Blog Improvement Project, Kim has us at work on improving our blog basics: updating our contact information, About page, RSS feed links, blogroll, and so on.I did a bit of this last week because I didn't feel like doing the Blog Post Bingo. This week I continued:
- In my war against clutter, I deleted all the various buttons on my sidebar. The only one I felt like keeping was the button in Dewey's memory, but apparently my current sidebar is not wide enough to display it completely, and it doesn't show correctly. Umpf.
- I updated my About page. Have a look at it if you want, and tell me what you think. I'm not very satisfied with it - I still feel it's too generic - but for now it'll have to do.
- I added the "recent comments" widget. It looks fine, I think.
Now, a couple of words about the lack of updates. I haven't been feeling very well in the past few weeks, and I'm very far from caught up on my reviews/blog posts/whatever it is that I usually write when I finish a book. Inspiration just won't strike, and it's something I have to accept, I suppose. Bear with me, if you will.
**EDIT Nov 26, 2009
Please note: I'm closing comments on this post, since it's being constantly spammed with Japanese comments which I can't decipher nor understand. I have already deleted 50+ spam comments in Japanese on this post and I'm tired of having to do this every other day. Please do NOT comment on this blog using alphabets that I can't read. Thank you.**

I've done a lot of my blog basics in the last 2 weeks also. I'm trying to consolidate and remove as many buttons as possible, but for some things I have to have them, so I try to keep them organized by theme and tidy at least.
I'm a fan of recent comments. Glad to see.
Sad to hear you're not feeling well. Take care of yourself and you're more than worth waiting for. When inspiration hits and you're writing again, I'll be here happy for your recovery and writing.
I'd like to add the tabs you have. Do you have to use a specific template to have this option or can I add coding to my existing page?
@susan: thank you for your kind words. To add the tabs to my blog, I followed the instructions I found here: http://bloggeruniversity.blogspot.com/2008/03/tab-menu-for-your-very-own.html
Hope that helps.
I like the less clutter. It's something I fight with all the time! Your changes look great.
Honestly, what's with this post that everyone and their second cousin twice removed feels the need to comment in Japanese? All comments in languages and/or alphabets I can't understand WILL BE DELETED. Without exception or explanation or prior notice.
